Aravind Srinivas co-founded Perplexity AI in 2022 — the AI-native answer engine that has become the most credible challenger to Google Search in the LLM era. Previously a researcher at OpenAI and DeepMind.

Clément Delangue co-founded Hugging Face in 2016, originally as a chatbot product before pivoting to become the gravitational centre of open-source ML model distribution. Hugging Face now hosts hundreds of thousands of model checkpoints and is the de facto registry for the open AI ecosystem.

Cristóbal Valenzuela co-founded Runway in 2018. Runway sits at the intersection of AI research and creative tooling — it shipped some of the earliest text-to-video models (Gen-1, Gen-2, Gen-3, Gen-4) and has long-running partnerships with film studios.

Daniela Amodei is co-founder and President of Anthropic, running operations and go-to-market. Previously VP of Operations at OpenAI. Sibling of Dario; the two are widely credited with the cultural DNA of Anthropic's safety-first positioning.

Dario Amodei is the co-founder and CEO of Anthropic. Previously VP of Research at OpenAI, where he led the team that built GPT-2 and GPT-3. He left in 2021 to start Anthropic with several colleagues, focused on AI safety research and the Claude family of models.

Demis Hassabis is co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind, the AI research lab behind the Gemini family, AlphaFold, AlphaGo, and a generation of foundational research. Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2024 (with John Jumper) for AlphaFold's protein structure prediction work. Former chess prodigy and game designer; co-founder of game studio Elixir before turning to AI.

Emad Mostaque founded Stability AI in 2020, the company that released Stable Diffusion in August 2022 — the first major open-weights image generation model. Departed Stability in 2024 amid funding and governance turbulence. Foundational figure in the open-weights movement nonetheless.

Greg Brockman is OpenAI's co-founder and President. Previously the CTO at Stripe, where he built the early engineering org. At OpenAI he led infrastructure and engineering for the GPT family, and remains heavily involved in research and platform direction.
Guillaume Lample
Co-founder & Chief Scientist of Mistral AI
Guillaume Lample co-founded Mistral AI as Chief Scientist. Previously at Meta AI Research where he led the Llama 1 paper — making him one of the few people to have shipped multiple genuinely foundational open-weights releases.

Ilya Sutskever co-founded OpenAI and served as Chief Scientist through the GPT-4 era. A foundational figure in deep learning — co-author of AlexNet (2012, the paper that kicked off the modern era) and Seq2Seq. Departed OpenAI in 2024 after the board governance saga and founded Safe Superintelligence Inc.

Jack Ma (Ma Yun) founded Alibaba in 1999. Alibaba Cloud now operates the Qwen open-weights model family — one of the strongest open-source contributions to the global AI commons. Stepped back from active leadership in 2019.

Jensen Huang
Founder, President & CEO of Nvidia
Jensen Huang co-founded Nvidia in 1993 and has led it ever since. Nvidia's GPU architecture is the substrate the entire AI industry runs on — H100 and B200 sales fund every frontier lab's training runs. The most consequential hardware figure of the AI era.

Kai-Fu Lee
Founder of 01.AI; Chairman of Sinovation Ventures
Kai-Fu Lee founded 01.AI in 2023, the lab behind the Yi family of open-weights models (Yi-34B, Yi-Large, Yi-Lightning). Previously president of Google China and SVP at Apple. Long-running figure in AI investing via Sinovation Ventures, and author of the influential book "AI Superpowers".

Liang Wenfeng
Founder of DeepSeek; Co-founder of High-Flyer Capital
Liang Wenfeng founded DeepSeek in 2023, an offshoot of his quantitative hedge fund High-Flyer Capital (which he co-founded in 2015). DeepSeek's V3 and R1 models reshaped the global open-weights conversation in late 2024 / early 2025 — frontier-class quality trained for a fraction of Western lab budgets, released under permissive licensing.

Founder, Chairman & CEO of iFlytek
Liu Qingfeng founded iFlytek in 1999. iFlytek is China's largest speech recognition company by market cap and has expanded into the Spark LLM family. Deep enterprise penetration in education and government. The company has been on the US Entity List since 2019.

Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook in 2004 and remains its CEO at Meta. Has positioned Meta as the leading open-weights player in frontier AI — Llama 3 and 4 are foundational models released under permissive licensing, a deliberate counterweight to the closed labs.

Pony Ma (Ma Huateng) co-founded Tencent in 1998. Tencent's AI lab and Hunyuan model family are among China's strongest closed-weights efforts. Tencent also operates the Yuanbao consumer AI assistant and is a major investor across the Chinese AI ecosystem.

Ren Zhengfei
Founder & CEO of Huawei
Ren Zhengfei founded Huawei in 1987. Huawei is China's largest non-state tech company, and HiSilicon's Ascend AI chips (910, 920) are increasingly used by Chinese frontier labs as a domestic alternative to Nvidia. Huawei's own Pangu model series and MindSpore framework are major open-source contributions.

Robin Li
Co-founder, Chairman & CEO of Baidu
Robin Li (Li Yanhong) co-founded Baidu in 2000 and remains its chairman and CEO. Baidu was an early major bet on AI in China — the company spent more than a decade building Baidu Brain, then ERNIE, before LLMs became the consumer story. Owns one of the original patents on PageRank-style hyperlink analysis (predating Google's).
Sam Altman
Co-founder & CEO of OpenAI
Sam Altman is the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI. Before OpenAI he ran Y Combinator (2014-2019) and co-founded Loopt, the location-sharing app that exited to Green Dot in 2012. He's the public face of the company that shipped ChatGPT and the GPT family, and one of the most consequential operators in the AI industry's commercial era.

Satya Nadella has been CEO of Microsoft since 2014 and Chairman since 2021. Architected Microsoft's $13B+ OpenAI partnership that defined the early ChatGPT era and Azure's positioning as the primary frontier-training cloud. Among the most consequential cloud + AI deals in tech history.

Founder & CEO of Unitree Robotics
Wang Xingxing founded Unitree Robotics in 2016, the Chinese quadruped + humanoid robotics company. Unitree's H1 and G1 humanoids and Go2 quadruped have become the price-point benchmark in their categories. The 2025 CES + Spring Festival Gala viral demos established Unitree as one of China's most-watched embodied-AI companies.

Co-founder & CEO of Butterfly Effect (Manus AI)
Xiao Hong (also known as Red Xiao) co-founded Butterfly Effect, the team behind Manus — the autonomous AI agent that went viral in early 2025 for executing multi-step research and coding tasks via a custom orchestration layer. Previously founded the no-code product Monica.im.

Yann LeCun is Meta's Chief AI Scientist and one of the three Turing Award winners (with Hinton and Bengio) for foundational work on deep learning. Invented convolutional neural networks. Vocal proponent of open-weights research and architectures beyond autoregressive LLMs (his JEPA work).

Co-founder & CEO of Megvii
Yin Qi co-founded Megvii in 2011 with Tang Wenbin and Yang Mu. Megvii's Face++ computer vision platform was an early breakthrough; the company expanded into broader vision AI for retail, IoT, and city deployments. One of the original "AI Tigers" of China alongside SenseTime, CloudWalk, and Yitu.

Zhang Yiming
Founder of ByteDance (former CEO)
Zhang Yiming founded ByteDance in 2012, the parent company of TikTok and Douyin. Stepped down as CEO in 2021 but remains the largest shareholder and is widely credited with the AI-first recommendation engine philosophy that defined ByteDance's product strategy and now powers the Doubao consumer AI app.
