Doubao 1.5 Pro (January 2025) is ByteDance's flagship LLM — the model behind the Doubao consumer chat app, which has become the most-used consumer AI app in China by daily active users. Doubao Pro is also the engine behind many of TikTok / Douyin's AI features.
Pricing via Volcano Engine (ByteDance's cloud) is aggressively low — under $0.30/M output — and ByteDance has been notably willing to undercut competitor pricing to grow market share. The model is closed-weights and Mainland-China-focused.

Architecture details are undisclosed but ByteDance has confirmed Doubao 1.5 Pro uses 'a frontier-scale MoE design.' Trained on ByteDance's internal GPU clusters.
